This Is The Daily Essential We Rate All Year Round

We don’t use the word essential lightly. But this beauty staple, first created in 1930, is always in our make-up bags…

Beauty launches come and go but some things always remain on our bathroom shelf. Perhaps your stalwarts might include Elnett hairspray, or Carmex lip balm – one of ours is Elizabeth Arden’s trusty Eight Hour Cream, an all-rounder that remains at the top of its field (and currently under €30 at Boots). I was reminded of it while watching the latest episodes of Emily in Paris, which features an unfortunate skincare launch around the idea of “glass skin.” Eight Hour Cream is a much more trustworthy option for creating a great shine on cheekbones and lips, as well as caring for cuticles and nails, and soothing and protecting dry skin.

There have already been a few welcome additions to the Eight Hour line, from hand cream to the very handy SPF15 lip balm stick. And the newest additions to the line include Eight Hour HydraPlay Skin Perfecting Daily Moisturiser. This little tube is big on hydration – key ingredients are squalane, glycerin and hyaluronic acid. We like the texture and smell too (most important for a moisturiser); it manages to suggest the signature Eight Hour scent (herbal, very slightly medicinal, familiar and nostalgic for many), without being too strong or intense. It’s suitable for all skin types, including those prone to oily skin, as its botanical complex helps control excess oil, leaving skin mattified. We find it offers a great base for make-up – with its blurring effect it’s really a primer, too. €40 for 45ml.

There’s also a new Eight Hour Daily Hydrating Body Lotion (€32) in the line-up, packed with shea butter, avocado oil and glycerin to relieve dry skin and protect against loss of moisture. It smoothes, softens and protects, with a lightweight feel. Just what we need at the end of the summer. It’s currently a star buy at Dublin or Cork Duty Free (€20 for 380ml).

Stock up on your Eight Hour Cream here too when you’re travelling; there are several travel exclusives, and we love this old-school tin duo (€14.80). Plus there’s a free gift offer at the moment too.

Elizabeth Arden is available at pharmacies nationwide and Arnotts.
