This Is The New Affordable Beauty Staple We Can’t Wait To Get Our Hands On

US skincare brand CeraVe has a serious following. My teens will use nothing else to clean their faces – it has a clarity about it, a simple effectiveness, and isn’t overpriced. And this March, the Advanced Repair Ointment arrives here in pharmacies – it’s already hugely popular in the US (here insert inevitable mentions of TikTok and viral, etc). Whatever about that, we do love a hard-working pharmacy staple for under €16. And I loved this on first squeeze.

This ointment (well-named, as it can be slow to come out of the tube, especially if your room is cold) is marketed as a “sensitive skin saviour” – because everyone believes they have sensitive skin now – but actually it’s good for pretty well everyone, helping to protect the skin barrier and deal with very dry, irritated skin, without being greasy (it’s less sticky than its muse, Eight Hour Cream, and is fragrance-free).

It’s also non-comedogenic (so won’t block pores). As a protective barrier, it can help to lock in your moisturiser – a nice idea, when the wind is this cold and biting, and the central heating is on too. Some might do this overnight; I prefer not to have a heavy layer on my face and find a night cream works just fine. Instead, I’m wearing it on cheeks to add a gleam, and make it look like my skin is really healthy; I think of it like a light raincoat over my moisturiser. €15.50, at pharmacies from March. www.boots.ie
