We’re in holiday mode. Here’s our pick of great beauty items worth making room for in your travel bag – including the limited-edition make-up star of the summer …

1. What to pick up at the airport
Packing can be a pain. We’re strictly hand-luggage only – have you seen the queues for check-in luggage? – so that little plastic bag has to work pretty hard. It’s handy to know that you save at least 15 per cent (versus the high street) on beauty at Dublin and Cork Airport Duty Free, from skincare to perfume. And you don’t need to take it all with you. If you’re travelling light, you can buy online and collect at the airport before or after you travel (with the Click & Collect service), or else shop in person and collect your purchases when you return from your trip.
Here’s what we’re picking up:
Andrew Fitzsimons Virgin Repair Serum, €15.20 (rrp €17.95). We definitely need to take some moisture rescue for dried-out holiday hair.
Stories Parfums Hand & Body Wash, €23 (rrp €27). We love Stories perfumes, and this neat tube is available in both the Nº01 and 02 fragrances.
Diptyque Biscuit candle, €52 (rrp €60). A delicious scent to take with you, or to come home to, with tasty notes of cinnamon and patchouli. Makes an elegant gift for your host, too.
CK One eau de toilette, €40 (rrp €80). This 1990s classic is now surprisingly affordable, if you look in the right place. Back in 1994 when it launched, it was THE designer fragrance, with its modern, gender-free approach, and a cool freshness that makes it so easy to wear. It’s just perfect for summer. Think airy, transparent notes of green tea, bergamot, lemon, nutmeg, rose and violet with a base of musk and amber. Purchase it before you fly and pick it up on your way back through the airport when you’re coming home. At €40 for 200ml, this is a bargain – we’ve seen it on the high street for twice as much – and will see you through the summer in low-key 90s style.
2. The summer beauty make-up item we’re going nowhere without
If there’s one new make-up range to pick up before you travel this summer, this is it. Chanel’s limited-edition summer collection features fabulous bright shades of Stylo Ombre et Contour (€38), which are chunky eyeliner crayons (with inbuilt sharpener) that you can use both to line the eyes and on lids as eye shadow, to add a brilliant pop of colour. There are seven shades to experiment with according to your eye colour – for example the icy blue or vibrant neon green work brilliantly with dark eyes (and there’s a metallic golden green nail colour, Reveuse, to match). My pick is the violet Neon Dahlia, a gorgeous lilac that looks particularly fabulous when paired with the new limited edition Noir Allure Mascara (€48) in matching Lilas. It might feel more daring than your usual black eyeliner/mascara, but worn with an otherwise fairly bare face, it’s a joyously chic approach to summer make-up.
This collection, Jardin Imaginaire, also features two new shades of Baume Essentiel (€45): a rose gold (Moonlight Kiss) and bronzey, coppery Solar Glow. Most beauty items called “essential” are really not. But this light-catching balm stick absolutely is, in my opinion. It’s the single easiest way to get glowing skin instantly; I am slightly obsessed with it, in all its various iterations, and have been using the new Moonlight one incessantly. I can’t imagine doing my make-up without it now, and it is so travel-friendly – you can dash it on in a taxi, or after the beach on the way to dinner. These products are all limited-edition, so will be gone before long …
At counters nationwide from July 15; and available now on www.chanel.com.
3. The skin glow trick
I’ve always had a soft spot for Dr Hauschka – the Rose Cream is an all-time favourite. Try the new Translucent Bronzing Tint (€25) for a hint of warm sunshine in your skin – mix a few drops in with your illuminating primer, or moisturiser. It leaves your skin with that lovely natural Dr H scent, too. I’m using Vieve Skin Dew (€27) a lot also at the moment to enhance that glowy effect.
4. The beauty collab of the summer
Jo Malone London has reimagined its Orange Peel cologne in a fun way: the limited-edition Orange Marmalade Cologne celebrates the upcoming new Paddington movie. Think warm woods with orange zest, and cute packaging. Cologne from €67 (30ml) from July 1 in store and online.
