Off on a mini-break for the long weekend? Chances are when you were booking your flights, you breezily opted for just a 10kg bag, adopting an ‘it’ll be fine’ mentality. How naive we all can be when holiday planning! Let me assuage your fears: packing for a holiday with a 10kg bag can be done. In fact, I’ve done just that for a ten day break in the sun.

First to go for me were heels: too cumbersome and they take up too much space. Secondly, abandon any notion of less-important toiletries like shower gel or generic body moisturiser (I pick those up locally), you’re going to need to prioritise space for serums, plus a good night cream. Try to buy a day moisturiser that doubles as a high strength SPF. CeraVe does a good day moisturiser with SPF 50. Use a cleanser that’s a balm, rather than a liquid; it may not have to go in your liquids bag. Lastly, I always hedge my bets that the accommodation will have a hair dryer.

As for clothes, you want pieces that will be multi-purpose. A do-it-all raffia bag that is cool for day but also polished enough to wear at night. A great cotton shirt you can wear travelling, that keeps the chill at bay at night and also that doubles as something you can throw on over your bikini or swimsuit. Speaking of swimwear, an all-in-one with nice detailing on the straps, or an on-trend square neck, can double as a tank top when paired with shorts. Allow yourself two dresses: a softer one for daywear and a more formal one for evening. Look for striking prints such as paisley, or an interesting shape such as an asymmetric shoulder, it’ll look polished even when paired with sandals. Sézane’s halter dress, pictured below, is a chic case in point. Keep scrolling to shop an edit of hard-working holiday pieces perfect for your next getaway.
