More than just a workwear staple, the shirt dress, in the right guise, can be a veritable summer wardrobe saviour. Look for a statement print, such as a windowpane check or a bold floral, and pair with a seasonal woven bag.

In case you missed it: white dresses are back! From crisp cotton poplin sundresess to 90s-inspired slips or floaty dresses with frilled detailing (check out brands such as If Only If: its nightwear has become an It piece for day dressing), there’s never been a better time to invest in a little white dress.

Smarten up cotton or linen trousers by giving them some structure – pair with a blazer, shirting that is crisp rather than relaxed, or a cropped jacket. It’ll make for perfect summer in the city attire.

While, at this time of year, summer jewellery often verges into the territory of layered and colourful (think: grown-up takes on the woven friendship and charm bracelets of our youth), sometimes the key is simplicity. Pare things back with a statement gold bangle, we love it worn with an elegant waistcoat in sleek white.

As for anklets? Only the chicest kind – made from dainty pearls – will do.

After quite a long hiatus, capri pants are trending once again and, should you wish to try them, they could be the missing component your summer wardrobe is crying out for. They’re versatile and have polish (we’ve seen them elegantly paired with shirting and a blazer), but when combined with a broderie anglaise blouse, they are the perfect nod to riviera dressing.

Our favourite summer styling trick? Give a formal summer dress a new lease of life – and a dose of versatility – by layering it up with a lightweight summer knit. Not only will you be warmer – always a bonus in our windy summer weather! – but remixing it to be more casual means you will be able to wear it far more frequently.

A vintage, or vintage look, slogan T-shirt in a loose, boyfriend fit is firmly on our wish-list for summer due to how easily it can be styled with cool separates (see the looks from Emma Rose Thatcher, above). Thatcher’s T-shirt is by Rails but we’ve spotted similar at H&M and from mid-range brands like Anine Bing.

A great belt is easily the accessory of the summer. From sleek leather iterations that speak to menswear, to the mood for bohemia encapsulated by Khaite’s sell out Benny belt, and vintage-look thick belts paired with elegant pleat-front trousers, right now the memo is clear: if in doubt, cinch your waist.

June isn’t traditionally what you call ‘cardigan season’ but the reality of an Irish summer is that you often end up wearing one, or at the least stashing one in your bag, when you go out. While fine knits are handy for travelling, we love the contrast of a chunky knit with a diaphanous blouse or dress: an Aran knit in a dark shade such as navy or black is a do-it-all staple.
