First it was Connell’s chain (and the general obsession with Paul Mescal and his GAA shorts), then Barry Keoghan’s red carpet style and now a brand new, buzzed about JW Anderson collaboration: could Irish men be any trendier right now?
Not really, it seems, as at Milan Fashion Week, Jonathan Anderson announced a collaboration with Guinness. The Northern Irish designer delved into the Guinness archives to create pieces that nod to the iconography of the Guinness brand. Think: playful hand-knitted jumpers which brandish a creamy pint (pieces are embroidered with pearl-effect jersey to recreate the iconic Guinness head) that don’t spare on luxury or detail. Natural fabrics such as cashmere-blend yarn mirror the natural ingredients used in a pint of the black stuff, too. The Guinness x JW Anderson ready-to-wear capsule collection will launch in November via JW Anderson stores and online. Watch this space.
What’s on our radar now? Local pop-ups that allow us to browse online brands in the flesh. Dublin-based brand Style Ignite Studio hosts its summer style pop up at Unit 213B on George’s Street Upper, Dun Laoghaire from June 17 to 30. We’re partial to the Robyn shirt and shorts set, €169, (in case you missed it, the co-ord trend is going nowhere this summer), an update on the brand’s other sets. This new rendition comes in a soft brown reminiscent of earthy, Mediterranean hues, speaking to the burgeoning appetite for all things brown (the shade was, in fact, voted for by the brand’s Instagram followers). It’s made from organic cotton that has a soft, linen-like quality. www.styleignitestudio.com. Styled by Sarah Rickard, the brainchild of Irish stylist Sarah Rickard-Lantry, also returns with a pop-up at Powerscourt Townhouse Centre until June 22 in the heart of the city’s shopping quarter. Customers can shop much-loved brands such as Malina, Second Female and Sunco. See www.styledby.ie for more information.
While you’re in town, drop into Fresh Cuts Clothing on Castle Market. Husband and wife duo Stephen and Lorna Murphy have collaborated with French artist and muralist Claire Prouvost on a limited edition range of summer dressing staples, pictured above, including a shirt, dress and trousers (there’s a men’s shirt, too), all designed in favourite summer fabric, seersucker. The range features two special prints, one designed by Prouvost, the other designed by co-founder Lorna Murphy. Each piece is made from GOTs-certified organic cotton. Prices from €69.90; www.freshcutsclothing.com.
Lastly, if you find yourself on a shopping trip to Kildare Village, don’t forget to stop by Curated by Design Centre, where sophisticated summer dressing is the order of the day. Things to look out for include a Cobbler’s Lane puff sleeve floral print mididress (RRP €1,060, Kildare Village price €795), and a Louise Kennedy brocade coat (RRP, €1,495, Kildare Village price €995), a striking investment piece that will have you covered for all occasions. There’s also the just-dropped collection from Paul Costelloe, pictured above, that celebrates ocean blues, riviera prints and frothy white separates. @curatedkv
