In case you were wondering, Katie Holmes is over the Khaite ‘bradigan’ moment that made her a darling of street style fashion. The much clicked upon image of Holmes hailing a taxi in a matching bra and cardigan by the US label spurred droves of women to invest in one of the many coordinating sets that dominated retail in its wake. “I gave it to a friend,” she told The Run-Through with Vogue podcast recently. “I was like, I’m not going to wear this again, I can’t,” she laughed.
Holmes, who is noted for her pared-back but always on point taste, has just launched a collaboration with French label A.P.C. The Paris brand is noted for its sleek and affordable leather bags (find them stocked at Brown Thomas and Arnotts), and also for its separates that embody classic good taste (think: the perfect pair of jeans, great shirting and ultra-flattering tailored trousers). Holmes has been wearing A.P.C since the 1990s and, for her collaboration with the brand, the Dawson’s Creek actress and mother of Suri Cruise delved into its archives to create a sleek collection of 27 pieces made to simplify your wardrobe. There’s a navy blazer, 70s-inspired jeans, a perfect caramel leather crossbody that goes with everything, slinky silk camisoles and patent black ballet flats. It’s all perfectly Parisian. In fact, you could argue it’s the ultimate French capsule dressing collection.
“Dressing like a French woman is so aspirational, it allows you to step into that fantasy of being in Paris,” Holmes said. While artistic director of A.P.C Judith Touitou offered up that the key to the much-coveted French girl sense of style isn’t exactly a state secret, rather an ethos. “It’s trying not to do too much … We value simplicity so there’s no recipe for that unfortunately,” she said.
