Denim shirts always look effortlessly cool, especially when worn with wide-leg jeans and a simple pair of sandals. Layer your shirt over a white tank or tee and add interest with jewellery – beaded and long, cord necklaces are both trending now.

If the temperature drops, throw a leather jacket over your favourite summer dress. Not only will it keep you warm, it’ll add edge to a pretty frock.

Knitted dresses are perfect for this inbetween-y weather, look to crochet styles in shades such as white, or off-white, in maxi lengths. Our favourite way to style them? With a relaxed pair of suede slip-on moccasins, inspired by Miu Miu.

As we hold out hope for an Indian summer, you can still nod to autumn while embracing summer shapes. This tailored blazer and shorts combination in light brown plaid is a chic case in point.

Speaking of shorts, we love this knit and shorts combination for when you want to dress for August, but keep warm up on top. Pairing with ballet flats or Mary Janes, rather than sandals, will feel more city, less beach-y.

If the weather isn’t playing ball, then lean into old reliables: a great striped cotton, or linen, shirt, plus a pair of wide-leg trousers. Nod to summer via your footwear: a pair of mesh ballerina flats are perfectly on trend.

We’ve been embracing an unexpected pop of red all summer, but what about a signature pair of red trousers? This wide-leg denim pair by COS, pictured on style influencer Lilly Sisto, are perfect for slouching in.

How to upgrade a black blazer and jeans? Add a white pocket square and a mannish black belt.

Suede jackets are big news for AW24, with coveted styles already dropping on the high street. Look to shades of light brown or tan that will work well with an autumn colour palette, but equally can be teamed with skirts and straw bags in August.

Back in jeans? Add interest with a Bardot-esque or asymmetric top that shrugs off the shoulders and a pair of kitten heels.
