Checking In: Amàre Beach Hotel Ibiza

Penny McCormick checks out the Amàre Beach Hotel in Ibiza…

VIBE: Adults-only, cosmopolitan, fun-loving four-star resort.

LOCATION: Sant Josep de sa Talaia, on the beachfront of Bou Cove.

DECOR: White, bright and airy with floor-to-ceiling windows; spaces punctuated by colourful pop art.

FACILITIES: Sophisticated, with three pools, an outdoor jacuzzi, lots of sunbeds; a gym offering yoga and personal training, and a bijou spa with Germaine de Capuccini treatments and products. Try the Aromas d’Ibiza massage, €95, which leaves skin smooth and smelling of lavender and citrus fruits.

ROOMS: 366, in eight categories. My all-white “Keep the Secret” room (from €205 on a bed and breakfast basis) came with all amenities plus a balcony and a retro 1970s-style love seat, a design feature of the hotel. The shower, with glass panels, spares few blushes; amenities are by Molton Brown. Oh Là Là The One rooms provide access to The One private lounge and terrace which serves complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the day, from €280 per room plus breakfast.

RESTAURANTS: Four in total. The breakfast buffet is a highlight served in Mare Nostrum restaurant (until a leisurely 11am) which has a large wraparound terrace. It also offers lunch – delicious salads, sushi and poke bowls – and an optional à la carte dinner menu of Spanish and international dishes. A discreet buzzer allows you to order from Amàre Lounge to your sun lounger. A roster of DJs and musicians keep the Balearic beats going during the day. The Belvue Rooftop bar is a must for sundowners with cocktails created by mixologist Diego Cabrera (try the Xo-Xo Amàre, a gin-based tipple with elderflower liqueur, grapefruit juice and honey). Latin American flavours are part of Michelin-starred chef Mauricio Giovanni’s indulgent menu at Hayaca.

DON’T: Be surprised if you want to rebook right away, or visit its sister hotel Amàre Marbella.

DO: Rent a car if you intend to visit other areas, taxis are expensive.

VERDICT: This Balearic bolthole places an emphasis on pampering the senses and encourages guests to make the most of their stay whether that’s poolside lazing or rooftop partying. It’s supremely relaxing. www.amarehotels.com
