5 Fun Family Activities Taking Place This Weekend

From Friday to Sunday there is a whole range of fun events and activities that the whole family will enjoy this weekend …

Fundrum at Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 

From Friday July 12 until Tuesday July 16 Dundrum Town Centre’s annual fun-filled event, Fundrum, is taking place and this year it promises to be bigger than ever. Amidst all of the events and activities there will be something for all ages.

For the whole family: For Fundrum’s headline act on Saturday 13 and Monday 15 the puppet show of The Gruffalo by No Strings Theatre Company will keep little ones engaged.

A Dino live experience is taking place on Sunday, where you can meet and interact with amazingly life-like dinosaurs and learn all about them. There will also be Family Fitness classes at the FFs Gym, Bubble Disco, face painting, a family rave, Baby Rave, The Wobbly Circus Workshop and The Bee Curious Workshop where you and your little ones can learn all about bees from the DTC resident beekeeper, Asheena Naidoo.

For the older crowd: A Sip & Paint session hosted by Paint & Prosecco is coming to The Port House tapas restaurant in Pembroke Square on Friday and Saturday with guided art classes accompanied by sangria! TikTok and comedic sensation Rachel Galvo will be performing two hilarious extracts from her hit comedy show The Shite Feminist at the dlr Mill Theatre on Friday at 7pm and 8.30pm. Movies @ Dundrum is hosting special screenings of the comedy classic Bridesmaids on Saturday and Sunday at 4.40pm, and there is a wine tasting at The Flying Duck at Harvey Nichols from 6-8pm. Tickets available for the wine tasting here; www.eventbrite.ie.

Movies On The Lawn, Malahide Castle

Head to the west lawn at Malahide Castle where you can watch a movie with an outdoor summer ambiance. There are two movie showings on Saturday July 13. At 2pm there is family favourite Wonka and at 7pm, for an older crowd, Dirty Dancing will be shown. Bring your own low back outdoor seating or comfortable surface to sit on and enjoy. Tabhair Aire – Take Care Yoga Event in Apna Park, Dun Laoghaire

Tabhair Aire or ‘Take Care’ is a free community yoga event that is all about taking care of yourself, while raising funds in aid of Palestine. It is a free event and is suitable for the whole family at all levels of abilities. Taking place at Apna Park, Dun Laoghaire – a two minute walk from Salthill/Monkstown DART station – the event will include mindful movement, yoga, meditation and breathwork all outdoors embracing the nature around you. Family Tour at The National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin 

From 1pm to 2pm on Sunday July 14, a tour guide from the National Gallery will host a special tour designed for children and adults alike. Visitors of all ages are welcome and the aim is to make the artworks fun and engaging for kids. Dublin City Council Funtropolis, Merrion Square Park

In its third year running, Funtropolis is already an annual weekend out for Dublin residents and visitors to the city alike. No tickets needed, Funtropolis is a free day out for all the family featuring fabulous entertainment like comedy, dance, music, street theatre and more. Performers will include Mark the Science Guy (a family favourite), Joe the Magician, more science with Scientific Sue’s Magical Science and Engineering Show. Comedy-wise there will be Those Two Idiots to get the crowd giggling and as for dancing Generation POUND will lead group activities and kid-friendly choreography, Ta Tum Tum music show with all things samba, while DJ Will Softly & The Bubble Gang and a Gospel Choir will get everyone grooving on the lawn. Get little minds moving at the Inspiration Station, or at the Story Yurt filled with tales and the Dublin art class to get their artistic juices flowing.

We must mention the free face painting involved and fairground rides to boot! As well as much more entertainment there will be food and drink to enjoy, buggy storage, baby feeding and changing area, and other helpful facilities for families. This festival is dedicated to family fun and that is what you shall get – what’s more the fun will continue next weekend also in Mountjoy Square Park! www.dublin.ie
